             Reasoning: Verbal & Non-Verbal

Chapter 1: SYLLOGISM

Here, these three circles are nothing but only the way to represent statements and these diagrams are called as Venn Diagram. It is just a medium to solve the logical questions. A question can have lots of diagrams which mean we can draw several figures by a statement but remember we always have to draw the easiest figure because it will enable us to solve the question in minimum time. Like  we have many routs to go home but we always the shortest possible rout.

There are two type of Syllogism:

       A.)Case of Certainty           B.)Case of probability/Possibility

 A.)Case of Certainty

Here we have four types of statements in which two are positive and two are negative.

                             1.All apples are papaya

                             2.Some apples are papaya

                             3.No apple is papaya

                             4.Some apples are not papaya.

Here,1 &2 are Positive Statements while

                                                            3&4 are negative statements.

Some Basic Questions:

S.)If only conclusion 1and 2 or 3 follows
T.)If only conclusion 1 and 2 follows
U.)If only conclusion 1 and 3 follows
V.)If only conclusion 2 and 3 follows
W.)None of these

Ques 1:

Statements: a)Some Indians are Americans

                       b.)No American is Australian

                       c.)All Australians are gentleman

Conclusion:

1.)No gentleman is American

2.)No American is Indian

3.)No Australian is Indian

Solution:

Step1:Draw the easiest Venn Diagram

 Step 2: Solve the Conclusions

1.)"No gentleman is American" is the case of possibility as here statements not given particularly for gentleman and American .As the diagram of (gentleman) can also be drawn as extending itself i.e.called the case of possibility given below:

Therefore the conclusion 1.) will be wrong because of the contradiction  taking place.(as conclusion 1. is the case of certainty.....but the relationship can be established only in case of possibility ) ans:(Con 1.->Not Follows)

2.) No American is Indian:"It will be definitely false because"

                   Statement:Some Indians are American

it will have only one certain conclusion i.e.

Conclusion: Some Americans are Indian, therefore it will be definitely false.

3.)No Australian is Indian:

 Ans:W.)None of these

Some Important Points that should be remember:

Definite Statements and their definite conclusions  According to Syllogism:                                      Every sentence should have a subject and a predicate . Some Basic Statements with their maximum no. of conclusions:   Explanation:   1.) Some A are B::Some B are A Why? Explanation:          Step1:Suppose, If you are 'A' and your Friend is 'B '          Step2: You hold your friend's hand then it means definitely for your friend He also held Your hand. 2.)All A are B::1 .Some A are B                              2.Some B are A Explanation: Step1:Suppose, If  'A' is Ranchi and 'B ' is Jharkhand.          Step2: All Ranchi(A) is in Jharkhand But All Jharkhand(B) is not in  Ranchi(A)   3.)No A are B::1.)No B are A.                           2.)Some A are not B                              3.)Some B are not A. Explanation: Obviously  ,for example you are 'A' and Bittergaurd is 'B
Practice Questions on Syllogism  : Select any from the Option whatever the conclusion follows: 1.)If only conclusion  (1) follows 2.)If only conclusion  (2) follows 3.)If either conclusion (1) or (2) follow.  4.)If neither conclusion (1) nor (2) follow. 5.)If both conclusion (1) and (2) follow.     Statement: a.)Some Stamps are Tickets.                     b.)All Tickets are Envelope.                    c.)Some Envelops are Offices.   Conclusion:1.) Some Stamps are Envelops.                      2.)Some Tickets are Envelope     Try to find out the answer with reason behind it.   Solution:   Explanation: Check the Basic Rules of it Given in Previous Post(" Some Important Definite Statements and their Definite Conclusions ")    Answer: (5.)If both the Conclusion (1) and (2) follow.

Reasoning: SYLLOGISM

Question   Statements: 1.)All Footballers are Music Lover 2.)All Footballers are Dancers 3.)No Dancer is Cricketer 4.)No cricketer is Player Conclusion: I.)Some Players can be Music Player. II.)25% of Footballers are Music Lover. III.)No Footballer is Cricketer Solution: The Two Possible Diagram of The Given Statements 1,2,3 and 4 are given below: I.First Possible diagram of the statements is:         II.)The Second Possible diagram for the statements is:     Now try to solve the Question...... Get answer after 5 minutes: Solution: I.)Some Players can be Music Player :Yes , this is a possibility by figure I.I II.)25% of Footballers are Music Lover: Yes ,if All Footballers are Music Lover then definitely some(25%)Player is also Music Lover III.)No Footballer is Cricketer: Yes ,of course by both the figs I.i and I.ii .because there is no any possible or Definite connectivity between Footballer an
